About this blog
Welcome to the Zia Ball blog. This site will primarily cover The Albuquerque Isotopes of the Pacific Coast League and the AAA affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. We will also cover prospects of the Colorado Rockies’ other affiliates as well as prospects of opponents of said affiliates, but with a primary emphasis on the Isotopes’ opponents. There will also be content related to prospects who may not be affiliated with the Rockies or their opponents as well as general baseball or sports topics at large as they relate to the coverage of baseball.
There will be other topics that are closely or tangentially related to the coverage of the Albuquerque Isotopes and the New Mexico area in general that may be of interest to baseball fans and the culture surrounding sports, the business of sports, travel, and leisure.
About me
I have been a baseball fan all of my life. I probably first fell in love with the sport thanks to my hometown team, the Minnesota Twins, winning two World Series titles at a time in a boy’s life when he starts avidly following sports. I’ve seen terrible versions of the team as well as the pinnacle of success and all the heartbreak in between.
So why now covering the Isotopes and Rockies organization? I recently relocated to New Mexico and naturally have taken an interest in the home town nine in Albuquerque. With the Rockies organization at a relative nadir I felt like I may as well buy low and try to ride the team and its prospects as they progress together.
I have worked professionally in finance and marketing within the food and beverage industry my entire career. I have degrees from both the University of Minnesota and The University of Texas. As such, I possess both an analytical and qualitative background–both aspects are sure to be pervasive in my writing. I have traveled to all 50 states across the country and seen at least one baseball game in every major league city (and some dearly departed MLB cities such as Oakland and Montreal). Outside of sports my interests include board and card games, film and TV, live music, and good food and drink of all kinds.
